These changes will probably have made it more desirable to the modern audience. My nook Simple makes for very ans reading of the equations without a magnifying glass. There are so many things I wish had been done to illuminate the subject more thoroughly, but perhaps one day I’ll have to write it myself. Return to Book Page. Thompson is one of the individuals represented on the Engineers Walk in Bristol, England. It is what comes after a few introductory chapters by Gardner that really made me smile: Very British and sensible, and a much better approach to teaching mathematics to children or, in my case, 28 year olds.

The sections by Mr Gardner are good but not as lucid as those of the original. How to write a great review.
I do know that I will buy this book for all my children when they are taking Calculus. So start here mzrtin you’re new-ish to calculus. He was known for his work as an electrical engineer and as an author. It’s still not that easy, but – as Martin Gardner explains in the introduction – this book still outshines any textbook in terms of accessibility and simplicity.

Another point that is important to note is that they don’t just demonstrate how the problems are done, Thompson and Gardener also prove how the math is true and how it can be used in science and in the real world.
